It Was 50 Years Ago Today… Now What?

The 50th anniversary of Woodstock ‘69 brought many tribute concerts and documentaries.
What was so special about those 3 days in August of ‘69?
Why should we care about it now, as 2019 winds down and 2020 rapidly approaches?

W’69 was a model and a microcosm of the World We Need Today:

Speed:  Intended as a rock music Festival—an entertainment & social event—Woodstock ‘69 united thousands of people, creating a city of 400,000 citizens overnight.

One Mind & One Purpose:  The entire population of the “Instant City—W’69” proceeded with their hearts & minds as if they were all in the same boat.  Everybody was clear in the knowledge they were all in it together.  The sharing and caring that ensued was testimony to this, and it was impressive.

Attracting All Bystanders:  Everybody—from the local townspeople who shared their food, phones, etc. to the U.S. Army, flying overhead to drop flowers onto the field—joined in generously to give their support.

Fast Forward to this moment:
We are flirting with the greatest mass extinction disaster in Earth’s history.

We are all in the same boat, and that boat is taking on water.  We inhabit a beautiful planet, but we’ve made a mess out of our sandbox and if we fail to clean it up and curtail our destructive habits, the science—which has been with us now for 30+ years—tells us the human species is in big trouble.

It is not too late—yet.  But there is no time to lose!

With the speed, spirit and magnetism of that pop-up city born on Yasgur’s farm in 1969, we need to act as a unified force—as if we are all in this together—because we are!

Among the activists who are out there now, writer Jonathan Safran Foer has listed the top four things all of us can do to reduce our carbon output and global warming:
1.  Eat a plant-based diet.
2.  Live car-free [or go electric].
3.  Refrain from flying—fly as little as possible.
4.  Have fewer children.

These changes are major and a lot for everybody to chew on…
Let’s do that and keep the conversation going here at journeytowoodstock.com
